We are Olea Aera. We have come to tell you a tale of forty thousand years rooted in ancient Aegean geography. We have set out to re-tell, pass down, share and eternalise, with excitement and respect, a tale written by an ancient tree that has accompanied the people of this land, sometimes offering its shadow and sometimes its fruit, for forty thousand years. We took along the magical timbre of Latin and named ourselves “Olea Aera” meaning “Olive Era“. We are the representatives of perhaps the only timeless era that has existed and has outlasted all other eras. We are here to pay our respect to Olive Era and ready to introduce ourselves to you to grow it together.

The story of Olea Aera originates from the story of a family rooted in the land of Ayvalık, a land that is worthy of an olive tree. Olea Aera is an initiative from Bahar Sağlam Gürol, a daughter of a family engaged in olive cultivation for three generations, to follow and grow her passion and to pay respect to her roots. Bahar Sağlam Gürol has shaped Olea Aera by combining technology and ancient knowledge, blending her experience from her food engineering background with the wisdom passed down over generations from grandfather to grandchildren. Olea Aera, years before it got its name, came into existence slowly in a house where meals were cooked using only olive oil produced from the family’s own olives. All that we needed to do, was to name it.

There is one thing that being Aegean teaches us: consuming real olive oil is not a privilege but a right. We also recognize, however, that searching for, finding and obtaining high quality and delicious olive oil requires effort in today’s ruthless modern world. We would love everybody to get acquainted with authentic olive oil, an essence of ancient wisdom deeply rooted in Mediterranean lifestyle and diet. This is exactly why we are thrilled and proud to present “Olea Aera” to you. We are now offering our natural, healthy, authentic, pure and high-quality olive oil to you in an easily accessible way. Building on what we have learnt from our family over the years, we are now excited to create a new authentic and elaborate brand by incorporating technical qualities: high quality early harvest and cold extraction production technique, storage in an ideal environment and temperature in addition to selection of true packaging in dark glass bottles.

Homer tells us that whilst resting under its shade, an olive tree  whispered to him the following lyrical verse thousands of years ago: “I belong to everybody and I don’t belong to anybody, I had been here before you came, and I will be here after you leave”. Inspired by a timeless sacred tree, we are now heading towards the time of the olive. Taking our strength from the local heritage behind us, we would like to share the miracle of this food that originated from these lands, that has been called “liquid gold” for an age.

About Bahar Sağlam Gürol

Bahar Sağlam Gürol, the founder of Olea Aera, was born in 1987 in Ayvalık. Having spent her childhood and teenage years in the midst of olive trees, Gürol became even more intimate with this ancient tree after her grandfather passed away and her father started taking care of his olive groves. Inspired by agriculture, her family’s main source of livelihood, she chose to study Food Engineering at Istanbul Technical University as a first step to claim the olive heritage. During her studies, Gürol did an internship in the laboratory of an olive oil factory. In 2015, she prepared her MBA thesis on a comparison of the Turkish Olive Oil sector with the European Union and American Olive Oil sectors. She worked in food industry for seven years in Turkey, the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Her professional experience ranges from quality management to supply chain management. In 2019 she established Olea Aera to make Turkish, primarily Ayvalık-type, olive oil accessible for those living in major cities and preferring to consume natural and local products; consequently introduce it to a wider global audience; to increase olive oil consumption by promoting Mediterranean lifestyle and diet.
